30 MAY – BRNO BROADCAST

A 30 min programme of the Brno event was broadcast on Czech TV last Sunday (26th May) at 16:45 local time. Further to the live TV broadcasts on site and the sports news on several European channels, we are now happy to inform you of the video production made by Traplet (GB - www.traplet.com). This video will be available for sale in the next few weeks in Europe, USA and Australia, via the Traplet network.

The calendar has been updated.
Events in Hungary and USA are postponed to 2003 with serious chances of success, PR China/October is cancelled and a final decision regarding Japan and Airshow China (Zhuhai) will be made by the end of June. Meanwhile, artistic creations are going a fantastic way and our two first real "air musicals" with original soundtracks will be finalised and ready to be displayed by October this year.
Let's meet in 2003 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first flight of the Wright brothers!

Very much inspired by the aircraft evolutions, the composers are Almadrava from Spain and Lily Horn Is Born from Switzerland.

08 JUN – MOTEGI, JAPAN

The 18th FAI World Grand Prix™, named "2002 Haute Voltige® Aerobatics Japan Grand Prix" has been definitely confirmed in a meeting held in Tokyo with Twin Ring Motegi Co. Ltd and the FAI World Grand Prix representatives.

This great event will display the Grand Prix competition and the Air Musicals© "The Call of the Skies" with musical composition by Lily Horn Is Born (Switzerland) and "Dreamings" with musical composition by Almadrava (Spain).

Our participation in Zhuhai Airshow is cancelled.

For clarification... The Haute Voltige® concept has now evolved into three different aspects:

  • Haute Voltige® Aerobatics featuring the FAI World Grand Prix™ competition
  • Haute Voltige® Air Musicals© featuring aircraft flying to original musical compositions
  • Haute Voltige® Performances, featuring special spectacular flying acts depending on the environment and the local regulations.

24 JUN – MICHEL COSTE

We are very sad to announce the fatal accident of Michel Coste on Sunday 23 June.
Michel was flying an airshow routine with the Patrouille Reva (Space Knights), an original and excellent formation team of 3xVarieze.

The accident occurred while Michel was performing a figure during the airshow held on the airbase of Nancy-Ochey in France for a reason which is unknown at this point.
The aircraft crashed in a safety zone, away from the public attendance estimated of 40,000 people. The accident is under enquiry by the "Gendarmerie de l'Air" of the Metz-Nancy-Lorraine airport.

Michel was 49 years old, a former fighter pilot in the French Air Force. With the Space Knights aerobatic team, he participated in the FAI World Grand Prix since 1998 in Europe, Japan and P.R. China.
He was a very nice man and everyone appreciated his smile and his attitude.
We lost a very good friend and we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

03 NOV – GP N° 018 – MOTEGI NEWS

31 October 2002
After successfully gathering all aircraft, pilots, technicians and musicians in the last three days, the official rehearsal (competition and air musical flights) brilliantly took place today.

Tomorrow is the first public day with the qualification flights in the morning and the premiere of the Air Musical Dreamings in the afternoon.

If the weather was great today, unfortunately bad weather is expected tomorrow.
Therefore, provided the qualification flights do take place tomorrow, we will put the results on-line as soon as possible.

01 November 2002
As forecasted, the weather gradually worsened today.
In the morning, the visibility was still correct and despite the clouds and the thin rain, the paramotors team Paraddax, the Mat Aero Team (Microlights), the Alpha Aviation team (helicopters) and Lily Horn Is Born (Sax quartet) were able to perform beautifully.

The qualification flights could also take place normally except for Klaus Schrodt (the last pilot to fly) who could not execute his programme due to the worsened weather conditions.  Please see below the results:

Solo Pilots
1.         Peter Besenyei              (HUN)   10'064 pts
2.         Nikolay Timofeev            (RUS)   9'840 pts
3.         Jurgis Kairys                 (LTU)     9'832 pts
4.         Viktor Tchmal                (RUS)   9'760 pts
5.         Mikhail Mamistov           (RUS)   9'648 pts

As mentioned, Klaus Schrodt (GER) was not marked.

Formation Teams
1.         Flying Bulls                   (CZE)    9'888 pts
2.         Matadors                       (GBR)    9'760 pt

In the afternoon the fog joined the rain and the "air" part of the Air Musical Dreamings had to be interrupted halfway through, leaving the audience discovering the story and the music specially composed by Almadrava.
The programme for tomorrow consists of the competition flights in the morning and the Air Musical Dreamings in the afternoon (if the weather allows it of course!)

02 November 2002
The weather conditions being perfect today, the competition flights took place and here are the results:

Solo Pilots
1.         Jurgis Kairys                 (LTU)    10'472 pts
2.         Klaus Schrodt                (GER)   10'352 pts
3.         Peter Besenyei              (HUN)   10'312 pts
4.         Viktor Tchmal                (RUS)   10'208 pts
5.         Nikolay Timofeev            (RUS)   10'200 pts
6.         Mikhail Mamistov           (RUS)  9'856 pts
Only the three first solo pilots will compete tomorrow for the Super Final.

Formation Teams
1.         Matadors                       (GBR)   9'776 pts
2.         Flying Bulls                   (CZE)     9'752 pts

22 NOV – GP N° 018 – PHOTOS FROM MOTEGI, JAPAN

Check out the photos made at the 2002 Haute Voltige® Aerobatics Japan Grand Prix.

07 DEC – 2003 REGULATIONS

Regulations for the Fai World Grand Prix 2003 are currently being amended. The new set will be available on-line around mid-January.

17 DEC – FAI WORLD GRAND PRIX 2002 – 2003

Further to the 18th FAI World Grand Prix held in Motegi, Japan, and despite his victory in this final leg, Jurgis Kairys (LTU) could not prevent the German Ace Klaus Schrodt, 2001 Freestyle World Aerobatic Champion, from winning the World Grand Prix title for 2002.
The formation teams Matadors (GBR) and Flying Bulls (CZE) finish on a draw...The corrida will go on next year, come and see the fight!
The 2003 schedule will be officially announced early March but further to its great success (over 50'000 audience on site) another competition is expected to be held at Motegi, Japan, on October 31st, November 01st and 02nd, 2003.
The FAI expects this spectacular event to expand internationally in order to promote air sports world wide, in connection with the artistic and cultural approach successfully developed through the Haute Voltige Air Musicals.
New regulations for the competition will be put in place by mid-January but we can reveal that flight programmes of the FAI World Grand Prix will include the outstanding "Precision Technica", the creative Freestyle to music "Aeria", and the extreme "Haute Voltige Ultimate Challenge".
Competitors will need to apply for exclusive Haute Voltige/FAI World Grand Prix licences, which will be delivered by the FAI World Grand Prix Committee (ruled by the FAI).
